FLOOR DIRECTOR PROCEDURES

The Floor Director's job is to:
1. keep track of how much time is left in the show and convey that information to the host, guests and crew
2. direct people on and off the set without interfering with the camera crew.

The Floor Director will have a set of head phones to hear instructions from the Director, a set of cards with different times such as 30mins and wrap up written on them and a timer that counts backwards until time runs out.

Setting the timer
Most shows are timed at either 28 minutes for a half hour shoot or 58 minutes for an hour shoot, this allows for mistakes, emergencies etc. It is better for a show to be under time than over time.
1. Clear the timer and memory – Press clear to Clear the timer – Press Memory + Clear to clear Memory
2. Reset the time – keep pressing the minute key until the desired time is reached
3. Set the memory – Press the memory key to store the set time into memory
(in the case of a false start, you can easily get back to the beginning by pressing – STOP– CLEAR – MEMORY)

Floor Director Duties

Before the show starts, the Floor Director should be listening for the Director's cues and yell “Quiet on the Set” when prompted to by the Director.

When the show starts, the Floor Director should press Start on the timer and be ready to cue the talent to start talking.

The Floor Director should keep an eye on the off- camera guests to make sure no one interfers with the camera operators , walks in front of the camera or makes any unnecessary noise.

As the show progresses the Floor Director will show the appropriate time card to both the host and the director in the control room. The time card should be displayed until the each acknowledges the time.

The host will usually nod and the Director will acknowledge by repeating the time, which can then be heard by all those wearing head phones.

In rare circumstances, the Floor Director may be asked by the Director to move a piece of equipment or perform similar duties.
