Establishing Ground Rules

  • Use "Yes and,* rather than "But"
  • All ideas are valid - not in-valid
  • Be hard on issues, soft on people
  • One person talks at a time
  • Everyone participates, no one dominates

Our Challenges

  • Build a Stronger Board
  • Design an effective structure to fulfill:
    Vision, Mission, Goals, Priorities,and Strategies, and to define roles and responsibilities for all
  • Create a broader volunteer base
  • Create a more professional attitude
  • Clarify what the station does for the public
  • Get the organizational structure up to speed - assign people to specific tasks
  • Use most efficient business practices
  • Take advantage of opportunities
  • Being able to get to information
  • Sustainability of the organization
  • Structure vs. freedom - Cultural norm
  • Program collaboration with COS
  • Create appropriate structure/leadership for this phase to take advantage of opportunities
  • Maintain partnerships - COS MCTV - avoid culture clash
  • Not enough volunteers to make it work
  • Studio production schedule too narrow
  • Increase exposure, quality of work, and highlight benefits of participation
  • Egos interfere - people leave offended or with feelings hurt
  • Organization is informal and loose
  • People don't know what's on
  • Outreach, getting more involvement
  • Get audience inspired to participate
  • Funding - money in the bank - equipment
  • Not knowing what specific tasks to do
