Television Audience Survey


Regarding the need of statistics around viewership of MCTV 15 on Northland Cable.

Purpose: For fundraising

Propose questionaire to gather information.

1. Do you have a TV set? If no, end of conversation, I guess.
2. Do you watch TV? When? Mornings? Afternoons? Evenings? What are your special interests?
3. Do you have cable?
4. Have your heard of MCTV 15, your local access TV station?
5. If no, explain what it is.
6. If yes, what do you watch on a regular basis?
7. What additional programming would you like?
8. What age category? 20-40? 40-60? 60 & above?
9. Income? Over $50,000? Over $100,000?


The purpose of the survey is to assess the audience for cable access television in South Siskiyou County. Special interest is made to MCTV 15 viewership statistics.

Research Goals

  1. Determine respondents’ awareness and viewership of local cable access programming.
  2. Determine respondents’ satisfaction with local access programming.
  3. Determine respondents’ information seeking variables in viewership of cable access
  4. Determine respondents’ degree of community involvement.
  5. Determine differences between access viewers and nonviewers as they relate to goals 2-4

Methodology

  • Telephone survey.
  • Survey 200 people. Approximately 5% of the estimated Northland customers.
  • Computer software to generate random phone numbers from Dusmuir, Mount Shasta, Weed and McCloud. The phone numbers will be generated in proportion to population.
  • Three attempts will be made with each number.
  • Only completed surveys will be used and counted.
  • A detailed questionnaire will be created to assist the surveyors.
  • Volunteers will conduct the survey over a four week period.
  • Volunteers will receive no monetary compensation for administering the survey. However they will receive a thank you gift from 'Siskiyou Media Council'.
  • Only residents over 18 years will be surveyed.

  • What kind of shows do you watch?
  • Where do you find out about what you want to watch?
  • What times are you watching television?

III. MCTV 15 Cable Channel 15 Viewership
  • Have you heard of MCTV 15?
  • Do you remember ever watching programs on MCTV 15?
  • Can you name or describes any shows you have seen?
  • How often do you watch the follow list of topics on MCTV 15?
  • Do you feel that local shows on MCTV 15 are a benefit for the community?
  • What do you like most about MCTV 15?
  • What do you like least about MCTV 15?
  • Would you like to see more, the same or less of the kind of programming on MCTV 15?
  • What kind of local programming options would you like to see?
  • Would you be interested in seeing coverage of the Siskiyou Board of Supervisors Meetings on MCTV 15.
  • How should MCTV 15 be funded?

Script

A survey script will be used by the volunteer surveyors to assist them in conducting the survey.
