Hi Warren, More Got Wiki changes from Portland. I have changed the way line feeds are handled. They now provide a line break when used at the end of a line and as before a paragraph break when two line feeds are used. It should now be possible to create most kinds of pages without the use of [<<]] line break directive. I have kept the [[<<]]line break directive and added another %%% to make it easier to type and is more compaitable with some other wikis. I also added a line continuation directive which is a single '\' used at the very end of a line. These changes and additions should make it much easier from beginners and experienced Got Wiki users. -John Cumming

Hi Warren, I have been very busy working on improvements to the wiki software and to the MCTV 15 website. I am working with Diana to switch over the DNS and therefore make the Got Wiki the official website. As discussed at the last board meeting, I have pulled most of the original website content from www.mctv15.org and placed it in the new public group on the wiki. I also grabbed your latest schedule and put it in the Public group. All the material we worked on is still on the wiki. To get there just add the group name after the URL e.g. http://www.mctv15.com/Main or http://www.mctv15.com/Board. You will need to enter your username and password to enter these sections since site security is now based on users and user rights. Once there they work as before.

When the DNS is updated all email will be passed to my server. I need a complete list of names and forwarding addresses to setup the server. Please add names you have to Mail Forwarding.

I am planning to make the DNS switch over at the end of week. - John Cumming

Hi Warren, I noticed you listed mctv15.gotwiki.com in your recent emails, could you please reframe from advertising our wiki until it has been introduced to the board next month. In addition the public areas need work before it's ready for general public consumption. -John Cumming

Oops, OK I'll wait.

Hi Warren, Great work with the news stories. -John Cumming
Thanks, John. I'll keep 'em coming!

Hi Warren, What's happening with the meeting tomorrow ( Wednesday )? -John Cumming
Check Wednesday now. I could email everyone now for RSVP, but if they haven't seen the earlier email organizing this meeting, I don't know what would make the respond to another email! I'll call you about 9:30am tomorrow & pick you up about 10. Also, haven't you already invited Googins & Ray Barry? We can count on Sylvia, but Vince never responded to the email, so I'm not sure about him...
I will call John Googins tomorrow morning, as for Ray I have seen or talked with him in years. Can you get phone numbers for Vince & Ray?-John Cumming
Vince Reinig Ray Barry?

Hi Warren, Do you think it's ready for more people to join the wiki party? Personally I would like more time to test and add some structure to both the 'Main' and 'Board' groups. That said, it would also be nice to see a few more people in here :) -John Cumming
I agree, on both points! We need more "beta testers" ;-) but some people may be turned off if it's not already working perfectly when they visit. As far as board members or current volunteers, I don't think any of them are ready for a system that is not perfectly clean. More later!
Thank you for your efforts in using and testing. I would very much like you to continue your efforts. Unfortunately there is not such thing as a perfect'' product, but I do try :). What are your top five aspects of this wiki that you feel need work before a wider audience is invited? -John Cumming
I guess my biggest issue is that the edit preview needs to be more WYSIWYG than it is currently - specifically in regards to margins.
I have added this is the Wiki Suggestions? page. I will work on it tonight. -John Cumming
I still feel like I am being asked for my un/pw at times after I'm already signed in. For instance, when I'm logged in to the Board page, it asks me to log in again just to view the B Calander?.
No one actually signs in, Each group has it's own lock and you have to use it's key 'password' to open the lock. Got Wiki does not have a user based management system, therefore if you create a new group and put a password on it. Anyone visiting that group will have to enter the password and do so once for each session. You can use your browser to remember the un/pw and just click OK to enter. -John Cumming
I guess that's it. My biggest concern is that the board seems to be fairly computer illiterate, and I'm afraid that nobody will visit the wiki more than a couple of times, let alone on a daily basis. They're all such poor communicators, and are notorious (in my mind) for not responding to questions or comments. It seems to me that for the most part they feel their responsibilites to the board stop at one day a month... We'll see how they react when they read THIS! ...Or maybe you could delete it after reading it...
Anyway, navigation seems kind of "choppy" - I don't know how to better describe it. Maybe the words will come to me eventually...
The content of any wiki is a reflection of their contributors. This wiki thus far has been used primarily to debug and improve the wiki it's self, and as a result some of the content is a little tech centric. I think we are nearing a turning point after less than a week, where the primary function and contributions will be with regard to MCTV 15 subject matter.
It's not content that worries me. It's the technicalities of editing the pages, as simple as it is for us, for others who barely know how to turn a computer on and check their email, it may appear very foreign to their sensibilities. I could very well be wrong, and I certainly hope I am! :-)
We are not really setting a very good example :( In it's simplest form it's not necessary to know or use any special formating to use wiki, just click edit type some text and hit save. The more adventurous might read the hints under the save button on how to add formating as well as follow the links to helpful pages on the subject. -John Cumming
If a website has no value to you, why would you return. If you are interested in MCTV 15 and don't return then this website will have failed.
For most people, MCTV 15 is a small part of a very busy life. No one really knows how much time and effort we all correctively put into this community project. - John Cumming

Hi Warren, Putting spaces at the beginning of the sentence/paragraph will cause wiki to display the text as mono spaced preformatted. It is important to put carriage returns into your text if you use this feature.
Ah, OK - thanks, I wondered why that was happening!

I have a password set on the 'Main' group for uploading as it may be problematic to allow anyone to upload.
Main group upload: Username: mctv Password: mctvgotupload
Please note that images must be web friendly i.e. In 'jpg', 'gif' or 'png' and on more the 500pixels horizontally. I noticed you have tried to use a 'bmp' on Main.Warren Masterson?, that image format is not supported by web browsers and therefore will not work.
Whoops! I guess I knew that...

I added support for our local time, now all change dates should be correct for us :) -John Cumming
Woohoo! (8-)>

Hi Warren, Check out the Main.Operating Rules? that are in place for MCTV. I would like to see them mergered/updated with ideas for the Pegasys Rules and Regulations. I would like to see a copy of the franchise agreements between the City of Mt. Shasta and Northland Cable Television. Could you get a copy from City Hall? Also is there an agreement in Weed? -John Cumming
I'd like to see these rules merged/updated as well! I'm going to Shasta tomorrow (Friday) to learn the CG & I'll check the files in the office. I think I've seen a copy in there. As far as an agreement with Weed - I'm sure there is one, and it might be in the files in Shasta as well, but I don't recall seeing it! Isn't that what Neva was talking about last Wednesday? I recall her saying something about the weed equipment being owned by Weed (not the station), but I'm not sure what the agreement is. I'd suggest getting ahold of either Neva or Vince for that one.

Hi Warren, I see you have found the 'BCalendar.Home Page?' group and filled in a number of dates. Please bear in mind that there is a public 'Calendar.Home Page?' group that is linked from the left menu in the Main group and a semi-private 'BCalendar.Home Page?'. I think we shound put as much as possible in the public 'Calendar.Home Page?' and keep the semi-private one for inner circle business. Anyway I am happy you found it and hope you find it easy to use. - John Cumming
Ah, I didn't see that - thanks for the heads up. I agree with your idea of what goes where, and the calander is wonderfully simple to use! I guess everything I put in the "private" calender should go on the "public" calender, except of course the purchasing committee meeting.
