FREE PSA Day

We are gearing up for SMC's first FREE PSA Day on April 23rd. We have had a fantastic response to our county wide offering of production support for a free Public Service Announcement for area non profits! Extensive pre-production work has been done under contract with Silicon Sorcery and Therese Condit. Check out our website for some samples and information about this event. PSA Production day is Friday, April 23rd. Some volunteers will be needed to assist in greeting and working with each of our clients between 12 noon and 8 pm. There will be a mandatory volunteer training on Thursday night, April 22nd at the studio at 7 PM. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Audra.

Sponsorships for PSA Day

Are you are your business interested in supporting our efforts to serve over 25 non-profit organizations for the upcoming FREE PSA Day at the Studio COS? We are looking for donations for refreshments for a volunteer staff of 10 over the course of the day. We would also accept tax deductible cash donations in support of our $2,000+ budget for this activity. There will be an opportunity for promotion of your support at our check -on desk in the lobby of the library building on the COS campus, and on our website. No amount is too small, please email Audra if you can help us with this first effort! Paypal donations may be made at http://www.mctv15.org.
ACM Hometown Video Awards

MCTV15 will be a judging site for some of the Overall Excellence Award video submissions in this year's Allicance for Commnity Media's annual awards. Siskiyou Media Council is a member of the ACM, an organization that promotes and supports public community media around the country. Five judges are needed to view the videos from 6 PM - 9 PM on Tuesday, April 27th and Wednesday April 28th at the COS Studio. Pizza and popcorn will be provided during the showings. If you would like to serve on the judges' panel, please email Audra. Siskiyou Media Council submitted both the COS Foundation "It's A New Day" and Siskiyou Arts Council's "Art Matters" promo pieces to be considered for Professional Production awards. Audra Gibson submitted her interview with snowboarder Olympic hopeful, Zac Kay. Watch for more info about getting involved in submitting your locally created shows this year to this annual awards event sponsored by the Alliance for Community Media.!
Board Retreat
The SMC Board of Directors will meet on Saturday, April 10th to discuss priorities for the new fiscal year in preparation for the upcoming budget cycle which begins on July 1, 2010. The meeting will be facilitated by Deborra Brannon.
Pecha Kucha Phenomenon

We have a group forming who is interested in putting together a night of entertainment that will involve eight to fourteen presentations along the lines of this hip new version of 'power point' presentations. According to wikipedia, the Pecha Kucha event includes the presenters (and much of the audience), usually from the design, architecture, photography, art and creative fields, but also often includes those from academia and the business world. We think a Siskiyou County version would be WAY FUN!
Siskiyou Media Council would sponsor the event, and offer technical expertise for the video portion. Learn more about this performance idea at the Pecha Kucha site. Interested? Email Audra.
P.S. April 16th at 7 PM, Redding will have their first PKNight.

Production Tips
Making television shows is not difficult when using modern equipment, good techniques, a team of willing volunteers, and pre-planning.
This Month's Tip:
We often receive calls at the studio office from people who would love to get shows made. Are you checking community requests on our website? Often, people will offer to pay your studio booking fees or associated costs to get their idea into production. Contact info will appear with the requests at Production Requests.
Thank You to John's Satellite
We lost our dish connection due to equipment failure at the end of March which resulted in some down time for our NASA, UCTV and Free Speech programming. Thanks to the great staff at John's Satellite and board member Todd Cory, we got back up and running with minimum down time and expense. We appreciate you!
